“I’ve been playing a songwriting game with Texas folk singer Matt The Electrician for about ten years,” Glen says. “Every Friday, he sends out a title. We have a week to write a song that includes it. The process allows me to write songs I wouldn’t write on my own. I’m always surprised at what comes out.” That sense of curiosity and play continues to fuel Phillips’ creative life and an ever growing collection of songs.
The past couple of years have found Phillips as busy as ever, playing packed solo shows across the country while continuing to tour extensively with Toad the Wet Sprocket. His travels have also included a sold out run through the Rockies with John Craigie, a UK tour with Colin Hay, and his first European river cruise on the Danube, an intimate destination experience built around music, travel, and community. In 2027, Phillips takes that experience to Alaska for a seven night cruise from June 25 through July 2, featuring three private concerts, a meet and greet, and a special Q&A and storytelling session.
Toad the Wet Sprocket recently released Rings (The Acoustic Sessions), a new collection that revisits the band’s music in a stripped down setting and puts the songs and harmonies at the forefront. Nearly four decades into the band’s career, Phillips continues to find new ways to explore the catalog while moving the music forward.
Phillips has also expanded the way he connects directly with listeners through PhillipsHeads, his community on Volume. Monthly livestreams and exclusive performances give him room to dig into deep cuts, revisit complete albums, play covers and new material, tell the stories behind the songs, and experiment in ways that are difficult to replicate on tour.
“I have a long history of livestreaming, and am excited to start a new chapter with Volume,” Phillips says. “Their format allows me not just to do livestreams, but also post new material and host online get togethers.”
That same creative momentum is carried into what comes next. Phillips is currently writing and developing new songs for a solo album planned for 2027, continuing to follow the curiosity that has defined his songwriting throughout his career. For Phillips, the goal remains less about looking backward than finding new songs to sing, new ways to share them, and new reasons to keep showing up.
